CARE INSTRUCTIONS

  • Hand wash with mild soap and warm water.
  • Avoid using sharp or abrasive tools to preserve the glaze and texture.
  • Dry thoroughly after washing.

How It Was Crafted

Shana Ostrowiecki begins by working the clay to prepare it for sculpting, then rolls it out into smooth, even slabs. She uses a selection of hand-building techniques to create a distinctive crochet-style texture, imbuing each piece with intricate detail.

After shaping and smoothing the piece, it is left to dry thoroughly for several days to prepare for the next step. The candle holder is then bisque fired at 1,850°F to ready it for glazing. Shana sands and refines the surface before applying multiple coats of hand-painted glaze.

The final step involves a kiln-firing at approximately 1,926°F, which enhances the depth of the glaze and strengthens the ceramic, resulting in a beautifully crafted and durable candle holder.
